Docents give 30-45 minute tours to school groups, daycares, adult and senior groups. Tours are scheduled at least two weeks in advance, and you can volunteer as often as you like! Training is provided.
Properly caring for artifacts, and researching their history and use provides the basis for all museum work. Collections assistants are vital for preserving FMOT artifacts, and invaluable for telling the story of the fire service.
As a collections assistant, you will be trained to catalogue, perform research on artifacts, and enter information into the FMOT database. Attention to detail, a love of history, and basic computer skills are a must! This position can be tailored to fit your schedule.
Exhibit Design Assistant
An exhibit design assistant helps in the creation and installation of temporary and permanent exhibits. You will work closely with the FMOT Manager to create new and exciting projects that tell the story of the fire service through the FMOT collections. Attention to detail and the ability to handle objects with care are requirements for the position.
Firehouse Gift Shop Assistant
The Firehouse Gift Shop stocks a variety of unique fire-related items that can be a special reminder of your visit to the FMOT, or make great gifts for that special firefighter in your life! As a Gift Shop Assistant, you will help to keep the shop open for business, inventory stock, prepare on-line sales for shipping, and work closely with the Museum Manager to create unique FMOT merchandise. You must be able to operate a cash register, have basic computer skills, and like meeting people. Training is provided.
Special Events Volunteer
Our special events volunteers assist with exhibit opening receptions, Family Days, the annual Fire Prevention & Family Safety Festival, Children’s Christmas Party, and more! For busy people who still want to be involved, this is the spot for you!
